Distribution and Warehousing in Supply Chains

Abstract Distribution and warehousing have been studied extensively from perspectives of marketing and operations management.Recognition of the importance of distribution and warehousing has stimulated more scientific approaches being developed or adopted today. In this chapter, we concentrate on the perspective of operations management, and the main objective is to provide a state-of-the-art overview of distribution and warehousing research and practice in the supply chain environment. We describe the basic functions and elements related to distribution and warehousing. The discussion will focus on the most innovative and best practices which have led to the improvement of distribution and warehousing performance, such as multiple channel distribution, added-value services, warehouse management systems, and reverse logistics.
