"why would anyone bother to pay for it when they can get the real thing for just a little more?" Because they can't keep that "real thing" at their fingertips 24/7 which can be done with a tablet. Scenario: Guy 1: "I read some interesting article in the NYT last week, but I threw my paper out. Guy 2: "No problem, I have it RIGHT HERE."
